Alan attended Saltus Grammar School in Bermuda, St. Andrews School in Middletown, Delaware and graduated from Princeton University in 1978 with a degree in Economics and Political Science.

Alan joined the Bank of Bermuda in 1978 where he worked for 13 years and was responsible for money market and foreign exchange dealing and corporate and client development.  He spent 7 years in the bank’s Hong Kong office from 1984 – 1991 managing their Treasury Department dealing principally with Fund Managers and Private Banking clients.  In 1991, Alan joined Chevron International Limited in Bermuda where his responsibilities included Corporate Secretarial duties and the management and trading of their Short-Term Money Market Portfolio. In 1992 Alan opened Pure Water (Bermuda) Limited and led this company to become one of Bermuda’s most successful small businesses. He sold Pure Water in 1996 and started Clear Water Systems, focusing on water treatment products and services and divested from this firm in 1999.   In 1997 Alan was appointed as a Senator and served for a year before being elected as a Member of Parliament in 1998 for the United Bermuda Party.  He left politics in 2003.   During this period in Bermuda politics Alan joined Argent Financial in 1997, a Hedge Fund investment Manager focusing in the area of convertible arbitrage and served as a director with responsibility for marketing and investor services until 2009. In 2009 Alan worked as a consultant and director to Somers Real Estate Opportunity Fund until 2012.   His present responsibilities include directorships in the Trust, Corporate Services and Investment Management sectors.

Alan has served on a number of Bermuda Government boards and committees during his career and continues to offer his service to community endeavors.  Alan was a former member of Bermuda’s national soccer team in 1980 and his present hobbies include golf, swimming, reading and music.
